Iowa women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder announced today that freshman post Tia Mays has left the team to concentrate on her academics.  Mays is from Des Moines and played prep basketball at East High School.

“This was a very difficult decision for Tia to make and we fully support her decision,” Bluder said in a news release.  “The number one goal for all our student-athletes is to earn their degrees.  We understand her decision to leave the team and focus on academics.”

Iowa’s 12-player roster for 2008-09 includes five seniors, one junior, two sophomores and four freshmen.  The Hawkeyes return eight letterwinners, including two starters and a part-time starter, from last year’s co-Big Ten regular season championship team.
